another masterpiece by Rachel and Kaycee

My very talented friend Rachel came for a visit and as always brought her tools of the trade with her. She had me order a huge roll of canvas from an art supply store and we let the girls come up with the concept. They chose to have a mermaid mural. We were going to put it in the play room, but there wasn't a big enough wall. So it's in the entryway! Here's how it started:
Rachel would have me paint in the solid shapes, then she would bring them to life with shading and details.
I am extremely art challenged, but Rachel is a good patient teacher and before long I was doing some detail and shading work too.
The finished product...
Thanks Rachel, you are amazing!

To see some more of Rachel's work, visit her website. We have done two other murals together. You can see them in her mural gallery - Veda is pictured with her jungle mural. Eve's mural was the one with huge pink flowers.

Happy Mother's Day to me

Thank you, my beautiful daughters, for making me a mother.

Veda had her first dance recital last weekend.  Her little class was so cute!  I think we had 12 hours of dance in 3 days...a little excessive for 4-6 year olds, ya?  But, the recital turned out so good in the end.  And you can see for yourself who the most beautiful dancer is!

My favorite brother came to Kauai for a short visit following a business trip to Honolulu.  We were so glad he had a good excuse to come to our island.  We squeezed as much fun as we could into two days - and we all wished it was longer!

Tay ruled the waves at this beach - cross it off the list.
We ate some amazing seafood!  This is seared Ahi - YUM!!
Me and my two handsome dates for the night.

Quick trip home

I made a quick trip home to Las Vegas to see my sweet Dad who is recovering from open-heart surgery.  Being so far away and not able to see him or help in any way finally got the best of me so I booked a flight for the next day.  It was SO good to see him, and the rest of my family.  My mom is doing an amazing job nursing him back to health, but I could tell she needed an extra set of hands.
I did get to sneak in a little fun though.  Carey and I  ventured to our old side of town to one of our favorite stops - the Wig Factory Outlet.  This is next door to the The Violin Outlet which we used to frequent in our youth.  Ah, the memories... the creepy mannequin heads and weird smelling wigs...
Us in front of The Violin Outlet. (I found a really great little violin for Veda!)

This is how I found Eve the other night when I checked on her before heading to bed myself.  She was sound asleep!
