One of our favorite things to do here is to visit our local Humane Society and visit with the dogs and cats. Travis has longed for a dog to run with for years. The first time we visited the HS we met this cute guy named Haui. He is a Border Collie mixed with Lab or possibly Hound. He is only 1 or 2 years old and very sweet and smart. We went back about 5 more times to visit and play with him. Now that we have a rental that allows pets, we wasted no time and decided to adopt. We just brought him home today. He seems excited to have a new home and family and is amazingly well-behaved and obedient. We feel lucky to have found him.

Veda loves having someone new to boss around. I'm sure Eve will enjoy the buffer.

Eve giving Haui loves
Being the soft-hearted animal lovers we are, we are going to have to limit our visits to the HS or we will be one of those families that has 20 dogs and 30 cats. They have so many cuties there and new ones each time we go. Veda and Eve love holding the little kittens as well.

Congratulations on your new family member! Your pup is lucky to have you too!
Wow, I never knew you guys wanted a dog! Welcome Haui!
Oh my gosh, you have a new pet!!! He's so cute! The girls look so excited to have him around too. :-) Congrats! (How do you pronounce the name?)
Mom said you found a place - - I'm so glad. Miss you tons, XOXO.
Looks like he fits right in with your beautiful family!
Love you all!
You guys are darling and I love your hair!! It makes me want to chop mine all off!
Congrats on the dog, he is cute too!
What a sweet addition to your family! My kiddos are trying to talk me into getting a pet dog. Little do they know that I'm sincerely considering one.
How wonderful! I am so excited for you guys.
I hope he is better behaved them Max and will not steal Veda's bacon out of her hand.
Haui is pronouned like Maui except with an H. Like Howie, but we like the Hawaiian spelling. He is really a good dog. We don't know if he ever had any training, but he seems like he has. We are keeping him outside for now but hope we can train him well enough that he can come in. Lupe, I say get a dog but get the RIGHT dog. Our adoption process has been very rewarding so far. We really feel like we rescued a great little guy and are giving him a second chance.
Gotcha KC! I have until Xmas to research! Operation: Pet Dog underway! LOL!
Is it okay I add you to my friend list? Too bad. Like your Sis, I didn't give her a chance to respond. I 'made' her be my friend! LOL!
Hi, I know you don't know me, but I had to check out your site...Tara's got me all into this bloggin' thing. So what brought you to Hawaii...sounds like an adventure. We have a chocolate lab named Mocha, she's 5 and we love her...defintely one of the family. Have fun with your new pup.
aw, what a cutie.
i still suggest you read the book, "Successful Dog Adoption", as it also has training tips and such for dealing with dogs who have experienced shelter life. But congrats on your new family member- i totally advocate shelter adoptions. He now has a new "leash" on life!
I am so jealous. Mark and I want a dog so bad but we aren't home enough to make it fair to the dog. He is such a cute dog too. Did you secretly name him Howie after our dad and just spelled it Haui? ;)
what a cool name for a dog. You are such an awesomely cool wife and mom. I get begged WEEKLY for dog by the kids AND husband. Humane society IS the way to go for animals. Poor little guy. Glad you could give him a home.
By the way...moving STINKS as far as friends go. I absolutely know what you mean. It takes time. Period. You've also got to be willing to put yourself out there a little. There have got to be GREAT people all over that little island. You just need them to find you, or you find them :) They'll love you:)
Dude! 14 comments! Now you're the coolest girl on campus. ;) I'm going to call you later - miss you tons, KC bug.
I found your blog on your sissie, Carey's blog. That dog is adorable and I love his name!
Are you enjoying Kauai...that's where we went on our honeymoon-so gorgeous there!
You know I'm not an animal lover, not a hater, just not a lover. But, I think Haui looks so sweet. He looks like there's kindness in his eyes. You really had no choice. You can't leave a dog that adorable at the shelter. I'm sure my dad is flattered to have another Howie Parker in the family!! :)
