Finally, we have eggs!

A
long awaited event happened last week - our chickens started laying! Veda and Eve take turns doing the chicken chores in the morning before school, now which includes collecting the eggs. It's been a great project for them.

Just a week later we are getting up to 6 eggs a day! Here the girls are enjoying their first breakfast of our own eggs.

Wow! Isn't it fun to see the variety of color in the freshly hatched eggs?

Is there a difference between store eggs and yours?

Sooz, Yes of course! My eggs are fresh everyday and my chickens are happy and healthy. Store eggs are about 30 days old by the time they get into your fridge, and in most cases the chickens are kept in horrific conditions.

It's been a lot of fun raising chickens! I would highly recommend it to anyone.

That's awesome. I've always heard that they taste better. I didn't realize our eggs were 30 days old... how is that even possible... YUCK!

I love it! Never pegged you as a raiser of chickens but I think it fantastic. We'd love to try some. I'm a little disturbed wondering how old these eggs in my fridge really are. How was your chicken farmin' class btw? Cwall me.

I have been looking into getting chickens for awhile (not that we need another pet). I am so glad that you guys are having a good experience with them. Did you build a chicken coop?
